Kastamonu, members of the Administrative Board of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB) was designated as Cultural Capital of Turkic World 2018. Kastamonu was declared as a Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2018 at the 35th Term Meeting of TURKSOY Permanent Council held in Turkistan, Kazakhstan on 5 December 2017.
The meeting was organized with the coordination of Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan Aristanbek Muhamediuli and to the meeting, Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan Sultanbek Jumagulov, Member of Parliament in Azerbaijan Nizami Caferov, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey Huseyin Yayman, Deputy Minister of Culture of Turkmenistan Nursahet Shrimov, Secretary General of TURKSOY Düsen Kaseinov and Head of Culture and Tourism Administration of Gagauz Place (Moldova) Marina Semionova were participated.
At the end of the ceremony, the symbol of the Cultural Capital of Turkic World was presented to Governor of Kastamonu Yaşar Karadeniz and Mayor of Kastamonu Municipality Tahsin Babaş by the permanent council.
The Permanent Council will also present the Year of 2018 as a Commemoration Year of Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev for the 100th anniversary of his birth, the Kyrgyz writer Cengiz Aytmatov for the 90th anniversary of his birth, and Kazakh composer Magjan Jumabayev for the 125th anniversary of his birth.
Hüseyin Yayman, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, who attended to the meeting on behalf of Turkey, stated in his speech that the implementation of the Cultural Capitals of the Turkic World’ took an important role in winning a brand value for cities.
Kastamonu
Kastamonu, which has an approximately 375.000 population, is attracted by its historical, cultural places and its nature. 65 percent of Kastamonu is covered with forests and it has a rich fauna and flora. Therefore, Kastamonu is a home of wild animals thanks to its rich nature. Kastamonu has the longest coastline (170 kilometers) among the cities in the Black Sea region. Kastamonu is also known by its natural beauties such as Valla Canyon, one of the most important canyons of the world, Ilgarini Cave, one of the biggest caves in the world, Gideros Cove and several waterfalls.
