“International Symposium on Baymirza Hayit in the 100th Anniversary of Birth and the History of Turkestan” was organized in collaboration with Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB), Istanbul University, Mimar Sinan University, Istanbul Rumeli University, Turkish History Foundation and Turkish Hearts Istanbul Office, on 9-10 October 2017 in Istanbul.

35 scholars from different countries such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Turkey, USA and Germany were invited to the symposium. In the symposium, there were 9 panel sessions that was discussed Baymirza Hayit’s life, personality, works and books.

In the panel sessions, it was explained that Baymirza Hayit’s life who was born in 17 December 1917 and died at the age of 88 in Cologne, Germany, on 31 October 2006. His homeland, city of Namangan in Uzbekistan and his early life were argued. Moreover, it is discussed that his war years; his recruitment to the Soviet army in the Second World War and then his prisoner years after he was captured by Nazi Soldiers and finally his duty in the Turkestan Legionaries. Finally, his academic life and works were discussed which started after the end of the Second World War in Germany and it was underlined the emphasis on his scientific studies in history.

The International Baymirza Hayit Symposium was completed in the end of the second day of the symposium with the final declaration which is accepted in the closing and evaluation session.
